Dveri-Pax is a mid-sized winery producing around 300.000 bottles at 70 ha in the North-Eastern part of Slovenia in Stajerska-Slovenia district, just south of Austrian Südsteiermark region. The owner of the winery is Benedictine abbey of Admont from Austria, which at the end of previous century got back some of the properties taken back after WW2. The first vintage was 2002, so we are rather new winery, which started from scratch. Nevertheless, the old records from Admont Abbey testify, that the monks have grown grapes at the very place back in 1139. The owners have invested heavily in the vineyards and the cellar which is one of the most modern in the country and the investments are still in place. Our aim is to remain one of leading Slovenian wineries regarding quality. At the winery we also have a high end restaurant with the typical local cuisine. About the region: Varietal whites with very well defined and complex varietal scents were always the highlight of the region. Sometimes reminiscent of Alsace, though with less body and a bit more acidity and freshness. According to Jancis Robinson this is one of the few remaining regions where grapes can get fully ripe, while the wines poses moderate alcohol levels. About the wines: Our focus are mid-priced crisp white varietals of good quality and some premium whites in “Burgundian” style. Furmint is our regional pride and Furmints from our region have been praised by authorities such as Jancis Robinson and Oz Clark.
